Slab Taper Measuring Instrument

 

    During the solidification process of molten steel in the mold, the thickness of the billet shell continues to grow, and the cross section of the billet shell gradually shrinks. The cross-section of the crystallizer must change with the continuous shrinkage of the slab cross-section, which can be achieved by making the crystallizer into a certain inverse taper. The size of the taper must be appropriate. Excessive taper will cause the crystallizer to squeeze the shell, causing the corners to be dented, increasing the friction between the shell and the crystallizer, aggravating the wear of the crystallizer, and increasing copper on the surface. Hot spots will form in the corner areas due to the air gap, causing thinning and cracks in the shell. A small taper will increase the air gap, reduce the heat flow, thin the shell, and easily cause steel breakouts; in addition, an excessively small taper will intensify the rotation of the corners, inducing the occurrence of subcutaneous cracks and longitudinal depressions. Therefore, the measurement of the taper of the mold copper plate is an important factor affecting the quality of the slab.

    The taper measuring instrument is an instrument specially used to measure the inverse taper value of the crystallizer. At present, the slab mold taper meter mainly has the following four methods for measurement:


(1) Hanging wire and tape measure measurement method
    This is a relatively primitive method, and it is also the first taper measurement method used by people. It is characterized by troublesome measurement and low data accuracy, but high reliability. Of course, there are also units that directly make a molding size and tape measure to measure the difference between the upper and lower openings. Value, the principle is similar. 

 

(2) Mechanical taper measurement method
    Its principle is to use a special mechanical lever and a dial indicator to adjust the zero position on a special calibration platform. The value displayed on the dial indicator is the difference between the upper and lower ports. Its characteristic is that it can completely overcome on-site vibration signals and interference signals. It has no influence on it and can overcome the influence of temperature, so the reaction figures are true and accurate. Now many large foreign companies have begun to return to the trend of using mechanical tapers instead of electronic tapers.

 

(3) Electronic taper meter
    The principle is to use a special high-precision inclination sensor as the original measuring device, use analog circuits to process the measurement data, and use a liquid crystal display to display the measurement data. Its characteristics are convenient measurement settings, intuitive display, and convenient zero-point calibration. However, due to the temperature of the electronic components, The impact is large, the zero point is easy to drift, and on-site interference signals and vibration signals have a certain impact on the measurement results.

 

(4) Microcomputer taper meter
    The principle is to use a special high-precision inclination sensor as the original measurement device, use a microcontroller and data circuit to process the measurement data, and use a liquid crystal display to display the measurement data. Its characteristics are convenient measurement settings, intuitive display, and convenient zero-point calibration, but on-site vibration is harmful to the measurement. The measurement results are affected. The first measurement method is currently used by only a few manufacturers, and generally steel manufacturers mainly use the latter three methods. The three types of taper measuring instruments developed by the Instrument Department of Wuhan Jiate Heavy Equipment Co., Ltd. are widely used in domestic steel plants and have reliable performance, reaching or even exceeding the performance of original imported products.
